FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do I need a physician referral to start treatment?
No, Virginia is a direct access state by law. This means that you can seek physical therapy treatment for any musculoskeletal injury directly, without a physician's referral. Physical therapists are experts in musculoskeletal conditions and can save you time and money by avoiding expensive tests, such as MRIs and X-rays, and avoiding prolonged wait times that could delay your recovery.
  • What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept cash, check, credit card, and health savings account (HSA) cards.
  • Do you accept my insurance?
Volition Performance & PT is not contracted with insurance companies, enabling us to offer hands-on, one-on-one care for a full hour with patients and clients to enhance recovery and performance. Our approach prioritizes quality over quantity, allowing you to achieve faster results in fewer visits. Traditionally, in-network therapists see 2-4 patients per hour, leading to lower quality treatment due to insurance companies reimbursing only about half of what is billed. This reduced payment is a common practice in traditional insurance-based systems. However, we do not believe in sacrificing care for the benefit of insurance contracts and prioritize the well-being of my clients.
  • What are the advantages to cash-based physical therapy?
Transparency in costs. Receiving a surprise bill from the insurance company months after treatment can be confusing and frustrating. We eliminate this issue with upfront, straightforward pricing. Quality of care. Each appointment is a full hour spent one-on-one with a physical therapist, with no technicians, hot packs, or filler activities—ensuring focused, hands-on care. Convenient scheduling. As a low-volume clinic, patients can easily schedule appointments without the long wait times often experienced at high-volume chain clinics, where waits can stretch for weeks or even months. Personalized attention. Care is tailored to each patient's specific needs and goals, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Continuity of care. Patients work with the same physical therapist throughout their treatment, providing consistency and continuity in their care. Evidence-based treatment. Our therapists utilize the latest research and proven techniques to ensure effective and efficient care. Focus on functional improvement. Our goal is to help patients improve their functional abilities and return to daily activities as quickly as possible.
  • How often will I need to come in?
Treatment plans are tailored to each client based on the results of their initial evaluation and their adherence to the recommended home program. Usually, clients receive 1-2 visits per week, depending on the complexity of their diagnosis and their goals. The frequency of visits per week is highest at the beginning but decreases over the course of treatment, which may last anywhere from a few visits to several months, depending on the severity of the diagnosis and the client's ultimate goals. For example, returning to high-level performance in sports or intense weight training may take longer than being able to walk a couple of blocks. Our goal is to help you regain an active lifestyle as quickly as possible. We recognize the value of your time and promise not to waste it on activities that can be done independently.
  • What if I met my deductible or have a low co-pay?
If your deductible has been met or you have a low co-pay, you can still submit a claim for reimbursement through your insurance. Typically, reimbursement rates for out-of-network providers range from 40-80%. While a doctor's order is not necessary for the best chances of reimbursement, it may assist in the reimbursement process.
